Working through hard things
·Since last day I am trying to study but I could not just sit and focus. I think I have to have an objective approach towards the feeling of procrastination. Writing helps me with seeing my own activities and feelings objectively.

Looking objectively means not allowing the feelings control you but you control your actions the way you want to, not if you are feeling lazy or procrastination you wont work.
I have a big gap in career probably that also contributed to it. But better to improve it now. And show commitment to my work.
I think building a system will help, but it takes a lot of effort to follow it like a soldier or with discipline.
Building a system can not be logical. Like just mention list of activities for yourself and you will follow through. I think initially they have to be sequential and solving one problem after another.

Values :
1) there will be feelings of confusion you have to come out of them.
2) there will be no guidance in PhD. Doubt will always be there. you have to push yourself through the solution
3) Respect the deadlines like God specially conferences. There are the saviors for you.
4) Push yourself even when you dont know, and learn on the way using creativity or logic or planning whatever works for you.
5) Lateral thinking help a lot when you cant find a direct solution or deal with it directly.
6) Only believing yourself can help you through it.
How to Force Your BRAIN to Do HARD Things (The Lotus Method)
- the threat response :
- Lotus method is that kamal to keechad me hi khilta hai. How it comes out of mud. No one promised you clean water. The mud doesnot disappear. But you do it anyway.
- what your mind is doing is escaping the discomfort.
- Identifying the mud :
- may be you are afraid of judgement
- may be you think you are not creative. but the more you create the more creative you become. first solution will always be crap. you get better with time
- may be you are bored
- Commit to task for just 2 minutes :
- this will help build dopamine
- and further dopamine.
- sit with discomfort
- Top down processing :
- maintaining physical presence - build a physical system around you that can help you sit even in distractions.
- defining concrete tasks : so that mind has clear instruction about what to do.
What problems you face during the work in the day :
- feeling procrastination or lazy
- sitting and working through tough tasks.
Steps :
1) push yourself to sit : - writing to soothe yourself emotionally and direct your feelings towards the actions you want. - coming to lab defines that you want to work. - define a time for writing like half an hour or so
2) Work with focus - give yourself deadlines for the day or the week - use pomodoro technique. it will help in reducing the distractions.
3) Move your body every 2 or 3 hours
4) Analyze your day in the last - how productive your day was and how can you improve - to help you remind yourself one hard thing you did in the day. It will help.
